The Liberty Foundation Adds B-25 "Executive Sweet" To Its Collection!

The Liberty Foundation is happy to finally announce the acquisition of the famous B-25 “Executive Sweet” from the American Aeronautical Foundation (AAF).  We were honored to be selected as the aircraft’s new home and entrusted with keeping this amazing aircraft flying for the public.  It has been quite a journey…

B-25 S/N 44-30801 was manufactured by North American Aviation in Kansas City, KS and delivered to USAAF on February 27, 1945.  Following her military duty, she entered civil service in September 1959.  After a few short years as a crop sprayer, she was acquired by a company named Filmways, Inc. in Hollywood, CA and used as a lead aircraft in the film “Catch-22” painted with the nose art and markings “Vestal Virgin”... UPDATE: 06/2021
Greetings from the Liberty Foundation!

While our national tour has been suspended for the foreseeable future, our dedication to preserving our aviation heritage has not.  We are working on a new website and will be announcing our future for this remaining year and beyond.  We greatly thank all of you that have stayed with us and for your continued support.

Most of you are familiar with the fact that our Boeing B-17 “Liberty Belle” that was damaged in an inflight fire, but it is hard to believe that it was 10 years ago this month (June 13th, 2011!)  However, most people did not know it is being rebuilt to fly again in Douglas, Georgia.  We have several years to go, but it will fly again!  We intend to dedicate a large portion of the new website to provide photos and updates to the re-restoration progress.

Our most exciting recent news is that our Douglas C-47 secured sponsorship for a full repaint, which our

aircraft sorely needed.  We flew it last Sat & Sun in the Lake Charles airshow for the 77th D-Day parachute drops and then it immediately went straight in for paint.

Our famous C-47 already has a famous history.  It flew on D-Day and towed a glider with the RAF.  It flew on several famous named missions, such as Operation Market Garden.  But more recognizable, it served with our foundation as the recovery aircraft for the Greenland Expedition.  Our C-47 was fitted with skis and landed on the Greenland icecap for the recovery of the P-38 “Glacier Gal”.   Our founder Don Brooks was one of the key contributors to the expedition.

Please check back for the changes!  If you need to reach us in the meantime, please email info@libertyfoundation.org or call (678) 589-7433.
